GUIDANCE...
Social activities are for members to relax and have fun, as well as form bonds within the GHU community. To build a social network, and who knows, even friendships. They aim to reduce loneliness, isolation, and increase resilience.
Community events are to educate and raise awareness of men's mental wellbeing, health conditions, as well as suicide prevention. To also reduce stigma.
Groups are a safe space for men to offload, reduce stress and stigma, promote speaking out, build coping strategies, share and support with struggles. And to make connections - maybe leading to friendships. In aim to reduce what could lead to crisis, to promote mental health safety, as well as suicide prevention. A confidential place for men to share openly what is going on. Or place to simply be present for company!
GHU recognises that attending any of these may be out of your comfort zone and wants to assure you that you ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS and there is NO PRESSURE to force yourself above what is normal for you. Everyone is respected, no matter participation or ability, and everyone present is not looking for a different you. The GHU community is here to help you and comfort you!
Some TIPS:
-
Be yourself.
-
If you need support, ask and say you are not "OK".
-
Realise you are unique, and everyone is different.
-
Know that you do not have to stay if things feel to much, you are under no obligation.
-
Take small steps - maybe just mustering the courage to get to the door is enough for that day - next time you may make it over the threshold.
-
Contact GHU who may be able to support you into a group in other ways.
